Lighting that suits the space

Lighting has more effect on how a room feels than almost any other electrical work, and it's also where the biggest easy savings on your electricity bill sit. We install new lighting, replace failed fittings and convert older halogen and fluorescent installations to LED.

Why LED conversion is worth doing

A halogen downlight typically draws around 50 watts. An equivalent LED produces comparable light at roughly 5 to 7 watts. In a kitchen with twelve downlights running four hours a day, that difference is substantial over a year — and LEDs last several times longer, so you're also not climbing a ladder to replace failed globes nearly as often.

There's a safety dimension too. Halogen fittings run genuinely hot, and in ceilings with insulation or with old, brittle wiring above them, that heat is a real concern. We regularly find scorched fittings and heat-damaged cable during conversions.

Outdoor and security lighting

Outdoor lighting has to handle rain, dust, heat and temperature swings, which means correctly rated fittings, properly sealed connections and cabling suited to the exposure. We regularly repair outdoor installations where standard indoor fittings or unsealed junctions were used — these usually last a season or two before moisture gets in and starts tripping the earth leakage.

For security lighting we'll advise on sensor placement, coverage angles and switching. Badly placed sensors either trigger constantly on passing cars and pets, or fail to cover the approach they were meant to watch.

Load shedding lighting

If you're already having lighting work done, it's a sensible moment to consider keeping essential lights on a backup circuit. We can wire selected lighting circuits to an inverter or backup supply so that passages, kitchen and bathrooms stay lit when the grid goes down.
